How I Learnt To Communicate Better After Neuro-Linguistic Programming
We recently went for a junior high reunion and almost all of my former class mates could not believe how much I have changed. This is mainly because back in junior high I was a shy and withdrawn kid. Because of my shyness I could barely communicate with other students and as a result I had no friends. This condemned me to being alone almost all the time since I did not have the confidence to talk to other students.
Consequently, this made me miss a lot of opportunities since I did not enjoy the things other kids of my age were enjoying. In fact, I was never invited to any fun activity by other students since they saw me as ‘the weird kid.’
It affected different aspects of my life
Academically I was an average student even though I had the potential to be one of the top students. The shyness affected my learning since I could not ask questions or participate in group work with my class mates. But the most affected aspect was my social life since I found myself alone all the time. Even the other students started giving me funny nicknames most of which were offending and made me feel as if I was not good enough.
My withdrawn nature eventually got the attention of my teacher who tried to encourage me to open up. When nothing was changing the teacher eventually contacted my parents. They were not surprised because even at home I barely talked with the kids in my neighborhood. My parents had tried to show me ways of communicating better but I had not changed much. Once the teacher called my parents they became more concerned and started looking for ways to help me.
After sometimes my parents suggested I visit a psychotherapist for some help with communicating and opening up to others. This was a bit embarrassing to me but I did it for the sake of my parents. The main reason why it was embarrassing is that I did not see as if I had a problem that required professional intention but my parents knew better.
The next step to make me better
The psychotherapist suggested I do Neuro-Linguistic Programming. The particular psychotherapist was friendly and explained in details but in simple terms to me and my parents what is Neuro-Linguistic Programming. He also explained to us how it can effectively help me to be communicating better through understanding different ways of communication. We followed this professional advice and this changed my life by making me a different but better person. I was also able to enjoy my life better since I could do things I never imagined I was capable of doing.
The most significant change in my life after doing the Neuro-Linguistic programming is that opening up became easier. This allowed me to talk with people who I could not dare talk with in the past. As a result I was able to make a lot of friends and my life became enjoyable in ways I could never imagine. I was able to talk my thoughts in a better way and this improved different aspects of my life.
I became a whole new person
I came to know that being unable to communicate properly can hinder people from achieving their potentials in life. This is because in the past I could see things I like but I could not go for them because I did not have the proper communication skills. But after the Neuro-Linguistic Programming I became a different person where I could go for the things I desired without any fear.
Right now I have a steady career which I love very much because it is my childhood dream career. In my line of work I get to meet a lot of people and since I have good communication skills I am amongst the best amongst my colleagues. I actually enjoy talking to people and I do this without any fear. If I had not visited the psychotherapy I am sure I would not have achieved what I have achieved today.
I would still be struggling with talking to people and my life would still be dull. I am sure I would also not be as productive as I am today and this means that my life would be boring and stressful. But I am forever grateful that my parents suggested I visit the psychotherapist because this transformed my life through giving me the ability to communicate better and in turn this gave me the opportunity to reach my full potential.
